Willard Library:
Growing up in and near Evansville, Indiana- Willard Library was just
another building to drive by in the haste of visiting my Grandmother
(who lives just blocks from Willard. Opened in 1885, it is a
majestic representation of the times of Evansville's river city
glory. One of my acquaintances has worked there for many years and
is the resident expert on the alleged apparitions there. I have
visited the site on a couple occasions. The only place I felt a
different atmosphere was in the Children's Room where a little girl
is occasionally spotted. My friend states that nothing has happened
in the past year since I last visited.
She is a relative skeptic on the happenings there, but knows more
about the building and stories than anyone else. Her guess is that
if there are ghosts- they were simply stirred up when renovations
were started on the building. I tend to agree. Reports of activity
tended to spike around the times that projects were started-
especially in the Children's Room area and the adjoining hallway.
All-in-all Willard is a beautiful, historical library full of great
librarians, stories, and a top-of-the-line rare book collection on
slavery, abolition thereof, and President Lincoln.
When you are in the neighborhood- you should stop by Willard
Library.
